The Trust’s outreach programme creates unique opportunities for participants to share their experiences with a global audience, becoming ambassadors and the next kaitiaki (care takers) for Antarctica’s cultural heritage.
If you travel to Antarctica with us on this once-in-a-lifetime expedition, you will return with so many stories to tell!
As part of your commitment to the programme, you will complete the following outreach activities with support from Antarctic Heritage Trust:
- Individual outreach activities
- One group outreach project, delivered alongside your fellow Inspiring Explorers™.
These outreach activities are an important part of the expedition, ensuring the experience is shared with others and inspiring the next generation of explorers.
Individual Outreach Requirements
As a condition of participating in the expedition, Inspiring Explorers™ are required to complete the following individual outreach activities on their return:
- Deliver three outreach presentations within your community. This could be at your school or tertiary institution, a community group or organisation you are connected with, or another suitable audience.
- Write a blog about your expedition experience for publication on the Trust’s website.
Don’t let this feel overwhelming. You’ll be fully supported throughout the process. During the team building and post-expedition weekends, you’ll receive coaching and opportunities to build your confidence in public speaking. We’ll help connect you with organisations that would value hearing your story, including many of the Trust’s supporters who made the expedition possible. We’ll also provide resources to help you share the Trust’s work and support you in writing your blog.
Group Outreach Project: Historic Hut Visitor Guide
Antarctic Heritage Trust will lead the production of an official historic hut visitor guide video, with support from the Inspiring Explorers™ team to capture key content.
This resource will be shown to future visitors to the historic huts in the Ross Sea region, cared for by the Trust.
The guide will share the significance of the huts and the Trust’s work to protect them, while helping visitors make the most of their experience and minimise their impact on the historic sites. It will also encourage visitors to become ambassadors for Antarctica’s cultural heritage beyond their visit.
To support Antarctic Heritage Trust, Inspiring Explorers™ will capture content for the historic hut visitor guide including filming and featuring in the video to help tell the story.
This is an exciting opportunity for those interested in film, videography, storytelling and communications to gain hands on experience contributing to a resource that will be seen by people from all over the world.
To help lead content capture for this project, we are looking for an Inspiring Explorer™ with the skills to capture high quality video footage and audio recordings while working in a remote and challenging environment.
